The UPLB Office of the Chancellor has recently appointed Dr. Mimosa C. Ocampo as the new director of the UPLB Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), replacing Dr. Emmanuel RG. Abraham, effective June 1, 2010.
Dr. Ocampo graduated with a degree in Home Technology from the UP College of Agriculture in 1967. She holds a Master of Science degree in Community Development from UP Los Baños in 1976 and earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Development Studies from the Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University in 2000.
During the last five years, Dr. Ocampo has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in UPLB. She has been conducting researches and writing for publications which contributed to community and international development. Dr. Ocampo has also served as a resource speaker/facilitator in various local and international workshops and symposia. She has particularly worked for national and local extension education activities.
Dr. Ocampo was awarded the 2010 CPAf Outstanding Teacher Award, CARD-MRI Professorial Chair, and mentor for the UP Graduate Mentoring and Apprenticeship Program. She was the executive secretary of the UPLB Alumni Association when it was first formed and concurrently, Dr. Ocampo serves as the alumni relations officer of the university.
As the new OAR director, Dr. Ocampo is responsible for strengthening the bonds between UPLB and its alumni. To achieve this, Dr. Ocampo’s vision is geared towards developing an efficient alumni information system and coordinating various special events and fund campaign programs to foster the relationship between the university and its alumni.
Specific actions include updating alumni information online for the database and developing the OAR website for a more efficient assistance to the alumni. The OAR will also assist the UPLBAA in its projects such as the Hall of Fame, Gazebo, Fountain, and Wedding Garden. Further, the implementation of ongoing projects such as Espasyal Kayo sa UPLB, Make It UPLB, Naming Rights, and Alumni Privilege Card will be enhanced.
Along with Dr. Ocampo’s appointment, the OAR will soon be transferring its office to the new Alumni Center. With these developments at OAR, UPLB alumni can expect a more exciting and effective alumni link with the university. (ALBGarcia)
