Two versions of a 44-minute video lecture of Dr. Dolores A. Ramirez (BSA ’56mcl), UPLB professor emeritus and National Scientist, were viewed at the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) Seminar Room on May 8, 2017 where she was also awarded a plaque of recognition.

Dr. Ramirez’ video lecture is entitled “”Mother Cell” of Philippine Genetics: The Academic Legacy of Dr. Dolores A. Ramirez”. The video lecture is divided in seven parts. It showcases Dr. Ramirez’ career, her lectures about issues in genetics, plant breeding and biotechnology, her protégés’ testimonies, her contributions to agriculture, science, and biosafety, her nephews’ and nieces’ messages of gratitude, and her aspirations for the future of genetics and plant breeding in the Philippines. The video lecture is available at the ILC, third floor of the CAS Annex 1 Building.

The Interactive Learning Center (ILC) heads the project which is called The Legacy Lecture Series (LLS), a lecture video containing “the collective academic experience of distinguished UPLB academics”.

Dr. Ramirez earned her Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture, magna cum laude in 1956. Through a scholarship grant from Rockefeller Foundation, she finished her Master’s degree in Cytogenetics at the University of Minnesota in 1958 and her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemical Genetics at the Purdue University in 1963. From being a research assistant professor in 1964, she advanced as an associate professor in 1969 and became a full professor in 1974.
